On Thursday, the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicon Technology (ISIT), together with its two site partners Vishay Siliconix Itzehoe GmbH and X-FAB, opened its doors to ten bright girls aged 10 to 17 as part of Girls' Day. The girls were given the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of microchips and actively participate in various workshops.

Girls' Day, which takes place every year, aims to get young girls interested in technical and scientific careers and encourage them to develop their talents in these areas. The site partners took this opportunity to offer the girls an insight into the exciting world of silicon technology.

The Girls' Day participants had the opportunity to take part in interactive workshops on site, where they were able to learn about basic concepts of microchip production. Under the expert guidance of experienced scientists, the girls were able to get hands-on: They generated their own wafers as part of a clean room tour and implemented their own small project in the training workshop with a DIY construction kit in the form of a miniature car equipped with sensors.

They not only learned the theoretical basics, but also experienced the microchip production process at first hand.

"We are thrilled to be able to offer the girls the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of microchips and gain their first practical experience," says Vivien Wilkens, co-organizer of the Girls' Day program at Fraunhofer ISIT. Her colleagues Maike Hüttmann (Vishay Siliconix Itzehoe GmbH) and Emily Ramm (X-FAB) add: "It is important to get young girls interested in technical and scientific topics at an early age and to encourage them to develop their talents in these areas. Girls' Day is a great opportunity to do just that."

Girls' Day at Innoquarter was a complete success and offered the participants an inspiring and educational experience. The site partners hope to be able to offer more events of this kind in the future to get girls interested in the fascinating world of technology.
